Maddalena Romano was born and raised in Adelaide, where she developed a strong academic foundation. After completing her secondary education, she pursued a Bachelor of Architecture with Honours.
It was during her architectural studies that Maddalena developed a keen interest in Building Law, prompting a decisive shift in her career path. Determined to broaden her professional scope, she undertook a law degree at the University of Adelaide, which she completed in 2000. She then completed her Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the Law Society of South Australia in 2001 and was admitted to practice on 11 February 2002.
Even prior to her formal admission, Maddalena had already begun gaining valuable practical experience, securing a position as a junior solicitor at a suburban Adelaide law firm in November 2001. It was here that she laid the foundations for what would become a long career in criminal law.
Despite her success in criminal law, Maddalena remained committed to integrating her dual passions for architecture and law. To further enhance her expertise in this specialised area, she undertook a Graduate Diploma in Planning and Building at the University of South Australia in 2006.
Alongside her professional practice, Maddalena has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to education and mentorship. She has tutored law students and provided guidance to junior solicitors at the outset of their careers, fostering the next generation of legal professionals. Her dedication to teaching led her to complete a Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching through Charles Darwin University, further strengthening her ability to educate and inspire others.
Maddalena is guided by the principle that “common sense often makes good law,” a philosophy that underpins her practical and client-focused approach. She is deeply committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for her clients, combining legal expertise with clear communication, empathy, and strategic thinking.
Outside of her professional life, Maddalena values time spent with her family and friends. She has a passion for travel and cultural exploration, with a particular affinity for Europe, and looks forward to spending more time abroad discovering new places, histories, and perspectives.
